A wider network of local service providers thanks to the project HOST

Our marketing-communication strategy ready for action marked the end of our four workshops within the project HOST – The Heritage of Olive Tree for Sustainable Tourism. IstraTerra tourism agency was joined by 23 other participants at the Regional Development Centre Koper, to figure out how to incorporate cuisine, natural and cultural heritage into their own business activities.

We all agreed that in order to put the cherry on top of the cake, tourism, cuisine, natural and cultural heritage need to have a good story; the examples of good practice combining tourism, cuisine, natural and cultural heritage that we heard at the workshop gave us motivation to find our own. The workshops allowed us to get a different perspective on our own activities, in particular by exchanging opinions, experiences and practice with our fellow participants. “The networking was really important too” said the Director of IstraTerra, Urška Križman Vižintin, who further added: “Small service providers from a wide range of tourism activities gathered in one place, our only common factor being our geographical region – Coastal Karst Region. As we at IstraTerra offer authentic local experiences, a wider network of small service providers is incredibly valuable to us.”

Confirmation that integrating providers is the right path was also given by the workshop provider, Dr. Karmen Rodman: “Recognising that enriching your offer and integration of complementary activities can lead to the creation of a fuller experience co-created by the buyer, led the participants to the principle of complementary business models and to incredible concrete steps on how to put the knowledge they received into practice.”

In the future, the majority of participants, including IstraTerra, will categorise their activities in order to have a more integrated approach to the market – building on their own ideas from the area of tourism, refreshing and developing their promotional activities and networking. We believe that IstraTerra will play a unifying role in this, which will result in a wider collection of even more authentic, local and experiential tourist products.

Judging by the enthusiasm and energy of the participants, the providers of rural Slovenian Istra will only be moving forward!
