Truffles, wine and stories – essential for recognition on foreign markets

Hamlet’s question “to be or not to be?” got its definitive answer on Friday at 6pm at the Slovenian tourist board conference SIW 2017 – a resounding YES! IstraTerra were more than satisfied with their decision to participate in the most important event in the Slovenian tourist industry calendar. More than 20 intensive meeting with potential foreign partners was certainly a great end to the day; strengthening partnerships and building new business relationships remain key challenges for tourist agency IstraTerra, and this event was no exception. After a couple of night’s sleep and the initial analysis of our performance at SIW, we are more than happy with our participation.
The Slovenian Tourist Organisation (STO) brought together 220 representatives from 130 Slovenian tourist companies and organisations, hotels, tourist agencies, health spas, tourism public sector, congress centres and other tourist service providers in the Grand Hotel Union in Ljubljana. Over the two-day event we had various meetings and got to know foreign tour operators, travel agencies, interest groups and specialised agencies (188 foreign representatives from 146 companies).
“IstraTerra prepared systematically and comprehensively for the two-day event with the help of the Tourist Organisation of Koper (TOK), who invited us to participate” said Jerneja Tratnik Lacovich, storyteller at IstraTerra: “The SIW website allowed us to go through all the participating foreign partners with a fine tooth comb and arrange 20 minute meetings. As well as basic information on IstraTerra, we also presented our products, partners (we worked especially close with the Treasures of Istria cooperative) and destinations. However, we had two more aces up our sleeve – small, handmade paper baskets filled with home-grown cherries and Istrian lavender strudel which we gave to all of our potential partners, who loved it. Drawing a line under SIW, we are very satisfied. We put our bets on our real flagship offers: truffles, culinary and wine stories.” Our convincing performance clearly impressed one of our partners who took their current catalogue tore away the page which had a similar offer for another destination and gave it to Jerneja saying »I don’t need this anymore, prepare me a similar package, because yours has soul!«
The support of the STO played an important role in networking, with representatives from Great Britain, Italy, Austria and Germany. All of these markets are important to IstraTerra, as the trend for experiential sustainable tourism in all these countries are turning into niche markets, custom prepared sustainable tourism products that takes the visitor on an authentic journey, through taste and exploration, bringing them closer to the culture, people and their customs. We believe that with our basket of Istrian cherries and our new online look we gave a well-rounded presentation of our explore Istria offer and all that IstraTerra lives, works and brings closer to our visitors.
The answer to the question how to move forward is also clear; this upcoming weekend we will present our Istrian playground, through its stories, to a group of German journalists, impress incoming group of guests and take advantage of the potential of the recent talks at SIW. If you are tempted by the secrets of Istria, just let us know. We certainly guarantee that for the next week or two you too will be able to enjoy a basket of cherries while getting information, hearing stories and exploring! 😉
